Edgar Pillet was born in 1912 in Saint-Christoly-de-Médoc in France. He attended the École des Beaux Arts in Bordeaux. He first worked as a sculptor and went to Paris in the thirties. Subsequently he spent seven years in Algeria. Pillet returned in 1945 to Paris and joined the staff of the Gazette des Lettres. He also became secretary of the Art d’Aujourd’hui magazine, where he worked from 1949 to 1954. He held a one-man exhibition in 1951 in Paris and subsequently many group exhibitions in Paris and Scandinavia. Together with Jean Dewasne he led the Atelier d’Art Abstrait from 1950 until 1952. Pillet also directed films about Magnelli and Laurens. One of his works is an abstract film entitled “Genese”. Various tours of – and exhibitions in – Belgium, Switzerland and Italy. He lived in the United States from 1955 until 1957. His work is characterized by a perfect technique and the application of strong but controlled use of colour. Pillet died in 1996.
