Walter Helbig was born in Frankenstein in Germany in 1878. He studied in Dresden and in Italy before settling in Switzerland in 1910. In 1911 and 1912 he exhibited with the Moderne Bund group in Lucerne and Zürich. In 1917 Helbig participated in the first “Dada” exhibition and he also collaborated with the performance of a number of related revues. He had contacts with Arp, Giacometti and Nelly van Doesburg. Helbig also had various exhibitions in Germany, Switzerland, Italy and France. He died in 1968 in Ascona.
