Although Van der Vossen was modest with regard to his own work, he was involved in almost all the important events of the Vrij Beelden and Creatie groups in the Netherlands. Since 1947 he produced abstract art that varied from strictly geometric to abstract expressionist. His oeuvre is multifaceted.

In 1950, together with Willy Boers, among others, he established the Creatie group. Shortly after the war, he was influenced by Klee and Kandinsky. Oils, gouaches and collages, in particular, geometric and later also in tactile forms. Van der Vossen had many exhibitions in Paris in, among other places, the Salon Réalités Nouvelles, The Hague, Brussels and Amsterdam.
